Introduction

Writing a clear initial prompt helps Woz understand the app you want to build. The information you provide at the beginning guides the agent in shaping the product and preparing it for app generation. A well-structured prompt provides useful context such as the goal of the app, who it is designed for, and the core actions users will perform. This allows Woz to produce a stronger initial plan and reduces the need for major revisions later. When starting a new project in Woz, you can begin in two ways:

General Chat Mode

Describe your app idea in a single prompt. Best when you have a clear concept ready.

Business Plan Chat

Answer a guided set of questions that define your app step by step. Best when you prefer structure.
Both approaches ultimately provide the Woz agent with the information needed to generate your application.

General Chat Mode

General Chat Mode allows you to describe your app idea directly in one prompt. This option works best when you already have a clear concept of the product you want to build. For best results, your initial prompt should typically contain around 200 to 300 words. This gives the Woz agent enough context to understand the idea and begin shaping the app planning process. A strong prompt usually explains:
  • What the app does
  • Who the app is for
  • The main actions users can perform
  • The type of experience the app should provide
Think of your prompt as explaining your product idea to a builder who will turn it into a working mobile app.

Example Initial Prompt

I would like to build a mobile app that helps college students organize and manage study groups.

Many students struggle to coordinate study sessions, communicate with classmates, and stay consistent with studying during the semester. This app should make it easier for students to form study groups, schedule meetings, and stay accountable to their academic goals.

Users should be able to create study groups for specific classes or subjects. They should also be able to invite classmates to join a group and schedule study sessions with a date and time. When a study session is scheduled, the app should send reminders to all group members before the meeting.

Inside each study group, users should be able to send messages and share simple notes or study materials. The goal is to keep everything related to studying in one place so students do not have to coordinate across multiple apps.

The experience should feel simple and intuitive for busy students. Creating a group should be quick, joining a study session should take only a few taps, and reminders should help students stay on track with their study commitments.

Tip

Prompt Length and Generation TimeAfter the planning stage is complete, Woz typically takes about 1 to 2 hours to generate a full app.The generation time depends on the amount of information provided in your prompt.
  • Prompts around 200 to 300 words generally generate faster
  • Very long prompts (for example 2,000 to 3,000 words) may increase generation time
For the best experience, start with a clear and concise prompt that explains your app idea. You can always refine the product later through additional prompts or iterations.

Business Plan Chat

Business Plan Chat provides a structured workflow for defining your app idea step by step. Instead of writing a full prompt upfront, the Woz agent asks a series of questions that guide you through the app planning process. This option is useful if you are still shaping your idea or prefer a more guided approach to defining your product. During Business Plan Chat, Woz will guide you through several stages of product planning.

1. Quick Description

You begin by briefly describing your app idea. This gives Woz an initial understanding of what you want to build.

2. Target Audience

Next, you define who the app is designed for. Identifying the target audience helps ensure the product is built around the right users.

3. User Needs

In this step, you explain the problems your users are trying to solve. Understanding these needs helps Woz design features that provide real value.

4. Core Features

You will outline the key features your app should include. These features represent the primary actions users will perform within the application.

5. Tone and Style

This stage defines the personality of the app. For example, the app might feel professional, playful, minimal, or community-focused.

6. Visual Design

Here you can describe your preferred visual direction, including color themes, design inspiration, or the overall interface style.

7. Business Model

You may define how the app could generate revenue or sustain operations. Examples include subscriptions, one-time purchases, or free access with optional upgrades.

8. Summary

Finally, Woz compiles your responses into a structured summary of the product plan. This summary forms the foundation for generating the app.
